I just got my new PF7200 filter and my new EP3500 EVOII series pump and I'm reading and I see the max head pressure for the filter is 18ft but the pumps' max head pressure is 23ft. So is this not the right pump?
Question: I just got my new PF7200 filter and my new EP3500 EVOII series pump and I'm reading and I see the max head pressure for the filter is 18ft but the pumps' max head pressure is 23ft. So is this not the right pump? Or does that pressure change since my pump is 4ft. below my filter and I will be ok? Or would I be ok anyway and it won't really hurt the filter or pump anyway? I want to do this right, I have 2" hose and I'm ready to go tomorrow as soon as my fittings have cured for 24 hrs so I'm hoping you might get this and email me back soon because I am really excited to plug this in!! Thank you in advance for your help.
Answer:
Very glad you were observant to see that detail. The short answer is that the pump is still safe with that filter. Reason is, as you say, first off the filter is already above the pump thus reducing the pressure a little. Second is, unless you are running 18’ up to a waterfall after the filter it will not experience the 18’ during normal operation. Now with that said, please follow close instructions on how to complete a backwash. It is important to turn the pump off while you are changing the position of the valves. If you leave the pump on during a valve adjustment it will pressurize the tank for a very short time thus creating that over pressurization. This will in time cause damage to the filter. Another thing to avoid under sizing the pipe on the backwash side. Make sure you use 1 ½” for this purpose.
